BART plans to spend $90 million on replacing all 700 gates in the system with gates that are too high to jump and too strong to push through, which system administrators hope will lead to a sharp decrease in fare evasion. When I heard about the supposedly unbeatable gates, I knew I had to try to beat them. Surprisingly, spokesperson Jim Allison invited me to the West Oakland BART Station to give it my best.

And they still do jack shit for piggybacking, the most common fare evasion method I've observed (and directly observed by the author!). Somebody's getting kickbacks.

Nah, I'm not a Bart hater. I'm certainly not driving!
