I've seen demakes that turn it into a side scroller but I would love to see it still be a first person, open-world adventure game, with extensive use of Mode 7.
Don’t forget the SNES could do 3D as well with the Super FX chip.

We're never really got to see what the super fx2 chip could do, with regards to 3d.

They managed to make Doom on SNES, without Mode 7.
Have you ever seen it running? It runs at a resolution of approximately 20i and the background music is hilarious. You know how the SNES had a very capable sound chip that could do amazing things if the composer bothered to provide decent samples, but everyone who wasn't David Wise didn't bother and used that standard set of sound fonts especially that one specific strings orchestra sound?
This is what At Doom's Gate sounds like on the SNES.
