Anyone got good places to find more interesting easter eggs for the kids than the usual plain ones or cadbury ones?
I'll plug my local boutique chocolates shop: House of chocolate.
Pricey but not slave traded chocolate or giant corp enshittified.
Those look awesome! I'm gonna have to decide what I'm willing to pay, it's sure in a different price league compared to The Warehouse collection!
I'm happy to have other suggestions to choose from along these lines, as they are definitely better looking than the same boring old things each year.
My back-of-the-envelope scratchings suggest that it's not really be downing any more, but everyone gets a smaller volume of better chocolate.
1kg of dubious quality but cheap chocolate isn't a good deal to me.
Oh there's no way anyone in my house is getting a 1kg egg 😆. I don't need crazy, cranky kids (or adults).
I'm just looking at the $10-$15 Warehouse options compared to these $30-$60 ones.
It's once a year though, I'm not against paying that much. I'd certainly prefer these to giving money to global corporations.
.... I was meaning 1kg in aggregate for myriad family members, though now I'm sad that someone somewhere is buying a 1kg crap chocolate egg for their child.
When I was young, one year my grandfather got my grandmother a 1kg egg and all through my childhood I wanted one. Never got one, and now I'm an adult I'd rather just have better tasting chocolate in smaller amounts 😆
I'm not sure if they're doing eggs this year but I've heard good things about both Wellington Chocolate Factory and Foundry Chocolate. But definitely a different price category to Cadbury. Foundry is probably wasted on kids, they do single origin 70% dark chocolates usually.
Could also try Bennetts of Mangawhai and Devonport Chocolates
Hmm seems WCF had 100 half eggs and that was it, all sold out now. And Foundry has a small selection but all 70% dark, so yeah, the house of chocolate ones still seem like the best option. I'm also realising now how close it is to Easter if they need to post them to me!
Should still be alright for delivery, there's at least 8 working days until Easter weekend
As long as they don't ship with Aramex 😆
Haha to be fair, we've had the same Aramex driver for 6 years and he's pretty good and consistent! Haven't had an issue with getting deliveries through Aramex for a while.
For comparison we're on like the fourth or fifth regular NZ Post courier in the same time frame. Seems really dependent on your local franchise.
It's hard to tell, but I don't think the issues I've had are with the local delivery driver. The packages seem to get picked up from sender, then have no further tracking updates until suddenly three weeks later it's scanned onto a van and delivered.
Or in the case of some stuff I got before Christmas, two identical things shipped in separate packages on the same day and delivered 10 days apart.
I think some local depots are better than others. My only wish is there was a shipping option where I can just go down to the depot to collect.
Hmm, I used to live near an NZ post depot and that used to be what we did. We were never home, so would just pick it up from the depot after work (after their failed delivery).
I guess they have the pickup points now, but only NZ post. I've definitely in the past picked up from other depots as well, but I guess no one actually let's you have it delivered to the depot (except perhaps NZ post letting you have it delivered to a post shop).
Honestly I wish all sites let you choose NZ post in addition to other options, I'd happily pay more to not have to use Aramex!
I used to do it for fastway/aramex and post haste depots here where I would ring them up when I saw the tracking say it’s at the depot and ask if I can come and pick it up. They are usually always ok with it.
NZ post however doesn’t advertise the depot numbers, only the 0800 number so it’s much more hassle. But they’ve been quite quick lately and most parcels get delivered over night any way.
Yeah never have issues with NZ post. I never thought of calling the Aramex depot, that sounds like a smart idea.
