Most of this is a Republican problem. See for example things like: "f--- your feelings", "the revenge tour", "tr*** that b****", etc. I don't think any of that is about trying to select the best, most competent candidate, but instead, it's about trying to own normal Americans.

When I was younger we disagreed about what path forward would lead to the best outcome, but we all identified as Americans, and we all wanted what was best for the country. Over the last 6 years, I've seen a dramatic change where politics is now about hurting the other party, or advancing a specific agenda, or just winning at any cost. People don't seem to view Americans with different perspectives as their countrymen anymore. Republicans especially are party over country now. It fucking sucks, to be honest with you.
