He makes his job interesting. It was his idea to say "chevron 7 locked," after all.

That was one of the best parts about the episode where Jack gets the Ancients' database downloaded into his brain and dials the address to the Asgard. During the dialing program, you hear, "Chevron 7... encoded?!" to let you know that there's an eighth chevron coming, and then you find out later that Walter just made up the encoded vs. locked distinction.

He likes to mix it up too, for the first few he says locked, and for the last it’s engaged. Walter is a man truly flourishing in his position.
