Baby showers are for the mothers, not the babies. Since most adult women tend to have more surface area than babies, they also take longer to clean.
Don't forget they are also traditionally pregnant which increases the surface area further so.

This also explains why the fathers scream "oh baby, oh baby" late at night. They simply want to relive their younger years and those nice dads are giving it to them.
