Guidelines & Community Rules
In addition to the general rules of lemmy.world:
Published Poetry
1a: Poetry posts should include the title and the author, when the author is known.
O.C. Poetry
2a: Sharing original poetry is encouraged, but it must be preceded by the tag "[OC]."
2b: If an [OC] post is requesting feedback, it should also follow with the "[FB]" tag. It would look like the following example:
[OC] [FB] Nothing Gold Can Stay
Feedback
All feedback should be given in good faith.
3a: All [FB] requests should be met with comments constructive in nature. It is okay to dislike parts of a poem, but make sure to explain why you feel that way.
3b: Feedback does not need to be extraordinary in nature. Simply expressing how a work makes you feel is often enough.
3c: Use the honor system. When you receive good feedback, return it in kind to another author. Everyone appreciates knowing their work is being read and appreciated.
As this community develops, these guidelines may be adjusted.
Formatting Help
Work in progress
To create a line break, use two spaces at the end of a line.
To create empty space, type
.
Use four of these at the beginning of a line to create a standard indent.
UPDATE:
Some methods of access do not format markdown correctly. I am currently testing various apps and web interfaces to see what does and does not retain formatting.
In the interim, it is encouraged to post text poetry as you normally would, but to include a link at the beginning or end of the post with access to a website or image that retains the formatting as intended.
Other Poetry Communities
Poetry lovers unite! In the style of the fediverse, multiple poetry communities have arisen, and will continue to rise. I will try to keep a list here of communities across instances that are worth checking out!

Which cities? People living in cities actually have a less carbon footprints. We get to use public transit. We buy local. We don’t go to chain restaurants when going out. Farmer markets may be a little more expensive, but they are vastly better quality. I can walk and grab a beer. There are parks everywhere that are public, unlike the yards and country clubs of suburbs. My dog is allowed most everywhere and loves coming out with us.
Cities are awesome.
How many forests, lakes, stars, bees or even flowers do you see inside a city?
I live between two forested streams, so water all the time. A lake would be a bit of a bike ride, but we go kayaking on one of the two main rivers and it's a quick drive (will probably bike it in the future with the inflatable kayak once I have my bakfiets). I keep bees in my backyard, and flowers are WAY more common around here than living rural. I have violets and daisies in my unmanicured yard and neighbors actually grow flowers in their gardens, so biodiversity is higher too. There's a park a block away, a really good one one more block away, and within a 2 mile radius there are at least a dozen really good ones, to say nothing of the little playgrounds here and there. I also live in a Tree City and our tree cover is insanely high, about 60%.
But even though we have all that nature, I also have three grocery stores, a library, a community center, a ton of restaurants and barbers and little shops all within a half mile. And if I need to get further, there are bike trails and bikeable streets all over, and a transit station .1 miles away. Cities are great!
I live in a pretty gritty city, but there's still some absolutely stunning parks that are soul restoring, and a public greenhouse that is not to be beat. If you can find those spaces it helps the bleakness.
