As of this writing much of Canada and the eastern USA is under moderate-to-unhealthy air quality

Extremely. I have actually watched the haze level change by the hour on the day of forecast. Off from 12 hours they are not too bad; but as with weather it always changes. Was predicted to be in the Orange today but the wind stream and pressure zone didn't change much so was in the Red.
