I don't know (yet) what exactly you're referring to (no spoilers, please!) but weird and unexplained requirements like this had been in BotW as well. For example, the "Two Rings" shrine quest that requires you to shoot an arrow through two stone rings does not work with multishot bows. It simply doesn't matter how many of the arrows pass through both rings, nothing will happen. You NEED to use a single-shot bow for this.

Another example is the "Shoot Four Targets" quest from Revali's part of the Champions' Ballad. You need to shoot four targets within a single bullet time but the game does not explain that second part. If you open the paraglider inbetween shots, you basically lose, no matter how many targets you destroy. And since that quest requires you to ride an updraft, then guess what most players instinctively do ...

Oh and also there is a minigame in the exact same place, also with targets that you have to shoot, but the quest won't work while you're playing that minigame. You have to be NOT playing the "shoot the targets" game in order to clear the "shoot the targets" quest. Nintendo logic at its finest.
