World News
A community for discussing events around the World
Rules:
-
Rule 1: posts have the following requirements:
- Post news articles only
- Video links are NOT articles and will be removed.
- Title must match the article headline
- Not United States Internal News
- Recent (Past 30 Days)
- Screenshots/links to other social media sites (Twitter/X/Facebook/Youtube/reddit, etc.) are explicitly forbidden, as are link shorteners.
-
Rule 2: Do not copy the entire article into your post. The key points in 1-2 paragraphs is allowed (even encouraged!), but large segments of articles posted in the body will result in the post being removed. If you have to stop and think "Is this fair use?", it probably isn't. Archive links, especially the ones created on link submission, are absolutely allowed but those that avoid paywalls are not.
-
Rule 3: Opinions articles, or Articles based on misinformation/propaganda may be removed. Sources that have a Low or Very Low factual reporting rating or MBFC Credibility Rating may be removed.
-
Rule 4: Posts or comments that are homophobic, transphobic, racist, sexist, anti-religious, or ableist will be removed. “Ironic” prejudice is just prejudiced.
-
Posts and comments must abide by the lemmy.world terms of service UPDATED AS OF 10/19
-
Rule 5: Keep it civil. It's OK to say the subject of an article is behaving like a (pejorative, pejorative). It's NOT OK to say another USER is (pejorative). Strong language is fine, just not directed at other members. Engage in good-faith and with respect! This includes accusing another user of being a bot or paid actor. Trolling is uncivil and is grounds for removal and/or a community ban.
Similarly, if you see posts along these lines, do not engage. Report them, block them, and live a happier life than they do. We see too many slapfights that boil down to "Mom! He's bugging me!" and "I'm not touching you!" Going forward, slapfights will result in removed comments and temp bans to cool off.
-
Rule 6: Memes, spam, other low effort posting, reposts, misinformation, advocating violence, off-topic, trolling, offensive, regarding the moderators or meta in content may be removed at any time.
-
Rule 7: We didn't USED to need a rule about how many posts one could make in a day, then someone posted NINETEEN articles in a single day. Not comments, FULL ARTICLES. If you're posting more than say, 10 or so, consider going outside and touching grass. We reserve the right to limit over-posting so a single user does not dominate the front page.
We ask that the users report any comment or post that violate the rules, to use critical thinking when reading, posting or commenting. Users that post off-topic spam, advocate violence, have multiple comments or posts removed, weaponize reports or violate the code of conduct will be banned.
All posts and comments will be reviewed on a case-by-case basis. This means that some content that violates the rules may be allowed, while other content that does not violate the rules may be removed. The moderators retain the right to remove any content and ban users.

The IDF is just manufacturing consent for their genocide of Palestinian civilians. The IDF also still needs to decide if Hamas is a conventional army or a terrorist organization.
The IDF is not committing a genocide.
The IDF aim is to take down Hamas, and not to destroy the Palestinian population (Source: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/2023_Israel%E2%80%93Hamas_war)
The unfortunate truth is that Hamas disguised as Palestinian civilians, and use Palestinian civilians as human shields.
Under international law, it is a war crime to kill civilians, even under the pretext of a human shield. Israel also uses Palestinians as human shields.

Genocide means any of the following acts committed with the intent to destroy, in whole or in part, a national, ethnic, racial, or religious group, as such:
This is definitely genocide
Trueeee
I also want to share BT'Selem's documentation on the history of the IDF using Palestinians as human shields since 1967

I don't get where this and the rest of your quotes come from.
It's not that hard to hold three truths in your mind at the same time. What Hamas did was a violation of international law and fucked. Isreal's response is ouverreaching, targets civilians, violates international law, and is fucked. Antisemitism as a response to Isreal's actions is a violation of international law and is fucked. We can recognize that what Hamas did was wrong, what Isreal is doing is wrong, and that blaming people of Jewish faith for what Isreal is doing is also wrong. Being on the side of innocent Palestinians is not the same as being antisemitic.
I don't understand why every argument has to devolve to baseless sound bites absorbed from media by a half alert brain. We can very clearly see that Isreal and Hamas's beef is being handled irresponsiblely by both sides and innocent civilians are caught in the middle. Primarily innocent Palestinian civilians demonized in assenine article like this.
Hamas holds, from the beginning of this war, women, children, babies and elderly as hostages in roughly inhuman conditions.
Hamas put the "ethical" threshold of this war, Hamas deserves the consequences.

Israel has already wiped out ~~10%~~ 1% of the Palestinian population after invading their land. If their aim is to simply take down Hamas, why are they telling refugees to evacuate to 'X' and then bombing 'X'? Why are they bombing refuge camps? Why are they murdering these 'human shields' as if they have no other option? Quit with your propagandist bullshit.
Edit: got my percentage wrong
Source on your 200,000 dead Palestinians claim?
https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Casualties_of_the_2023_Israel%E2%80%93Hamas_war
24,000 claimed deaths, which is quite horrific.
Right, 20-25k deaths (of which about 8k are Hamas soldiers). That's 1% of the population total, or about 0.8% of the civilian population. The person I responded to claimed 10% without any evidence.
Where's the 8k soldiers claim from?
According to here Hamas has 20k-25k members: https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hamas
8k dead Hamas militants estimated by Israeli military a few weeks ago. Overall strength was 20-25k militants at the beginning of the war as you said.
You need to remember that Hamas is both a political and military organization - 20-25k Hamas members doesn't mean 20-25k Hamas soldiers.
1%
Do you think Hamas is a terrorist organization or a conventional army?
According to Hamas 2017 charter, they don't even know:
Source: https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/2017_Hamas_charter
While the IDF under "Purity of Arms" clearly states:
Source: https://www.idf.il/en/mini-sites/our-mission-our-values/
The unfortunate truth is that we’re all seeing with our eyes Israel conduct a campaign of genocide, amongst its other war crimes (abducting children, denying food/water, etc.)
Israel’s lost its support, now all we can hope for is an international response to stop Israel.
Vladimir Putin's stated aim is to kill Nazis... That doesn't mean it's true.
