I don't get why bug protein is always held up as a sign of capitalist dystopia.

It's creating equal nutritional value for less carbon pollution per unit consumed, not to mention how plenty of cultures already have it as a normal part of their cuisine. Only reason I haven't tried it personally is because I haven't seen a widely available outlet to try it through.

This is like saying, "get in the pod, eat the chicken bacon"

It's a right wing conspiracy theory. https://knowyourmeme.com/memes/i-will-not-eat-the-bugs And more broadly https://knowyourmeme.com/memes/youll-own-nothing-and-be-happy/ Basically right wingers are very good at calling any modest improvement to society an attempt at making everyone live in an Amazon pod dystopia, but communist somehow. It works if you are dumb

See I really need to read more before I post, because you already basically what I wanted to say, but better.

Well, I think it's because there's a lot of people out there who have some conspiracy concerning the "elites" of our society promoting some sorta "humiliating" and or "disgusting" thing for the lower class, while they make all the "actual food" expensive and can dine and wine in luxury, whilst they simultaneously use that as an excuse for feeling superior to the lower class. Imagine some rich fuck using "bugeater" as an insult pertaining to one's class.

Don't get me wrong, eating bugs is something good overall for humanity. There's just a lot of problems in trying to make it palatable for both the upper and lower classes right now.

That sounds like a lot of effort to have an extra insult up their sleeve, also it would backfire almost instantly since the demand shifts would in a market economy lead to the bug protein becoming the expensive rich people food while traditional meat products plunge in prices with no consumer base to match the current supply.

"I will NOT live in the pod, I will NOT eat the bugs" is often a cry of these kind of christofascist dickbags I see on 4chan, who recognize all of the absurdities of capitalism, and instead think to blame it all on (((them)) (the jews) and any/all minorities, instead of on their economic system and it's major propagators. It's sort of similar to the "You will own nothing and you will be happy" type of thing. That can be really valid in some circumstances, but in others, it can just be because people really don't want to buy into public transit, or really, don't want to buy into any shared public good that they can't "own". I would not really be surprised if this specific image macro originated on 4chan. That maybe sounds paranoid, but it's giving me those vibes pretty heavy, for sure.

Because people don’t have a taste for bugs in the west. It may change over time, but still.

Also, in virtually all of those future scenarios where the peasantry is fed with bug meal and industrial nutrition slob the rich and powerful get the actual food we know today, real organic food, and the bug protein is just another symptom of systemic classism and oppression.

You could say literally any grain product (even alcohols since the rich tended to favor wines derived from fruit, honey, and other products) is the same thing though since "le peasantry" are often the most invested in the use of grain product to still be full while making use of the scraps of more nutrient rich food sources like meat and lush fruits and greens that the rich don't gobble up.

You hardly see anyone calling a grilled cheese sandwich a sign of dystopian capitalism, except maybe that one guy with the melt fixation. Also, it's not exactly like the rich don't do what your saying even with us proles being granted the "privilege" of red meats, most popular cuts today were yesterday's pauper cuts, meanwhile the rich are dining on Wagyu cuts that most folks won't ever be able to excuse buying even in a windfall.
