I don't mind competitive, but I think she generally enjoys coop. Simpler is probably better as well.

okay cool here are a few we like my wife is fairly similar about co-op preference.

  • forbidden series (Island/desert/sky)
  • burgle Bros
  • hinabi
  • pandemic
  • space team

I posted some of my favourite 2 player games here:

The others I like from that post are Radlands and Hive(pocket).

Others not in the thread that I like at 2P are:

Calico, Captain Carcass, Ghost Blitz, Bruges(re-skinned as Hamburg), Star Realms, Kanagawa, Land vs Sea, Lotus, Morels(aka Fungi), Niya(aka Okiya), and Regicide.

I've played all of these with my wife, who enjoys them too.
