The answer is no. No, we are not.
Oh, bleh. Always steered clear of that place, the name and overall vibe is wack
I’m glad you were able to find a solution that works for everyone.
What do you have against blahaj?
I was talking about "Are the straights okay" specifically. Blahaj is chill
My thing with blahaj is that while its cool that trans people identify with it, the fact that theyre trying to make it universally only be a trans symbol is a bit problematic.
My family has a few and none of us are trans as far as we know. Theyre comfy and cuddly as fuck, and I feel like its something that should be for "everybody" and not just one particular community. Like a bring-us-all-together kind of thing.
To be clear, I'd have just as much of a problem with it if it were becoming a symbol for some other completely unrelated community too, so it's not the specific community claiming it I have an issue with (trans people are people, and a lot of y'all are really awesome)
You sound a bit like those Christians complaining about how the gays stole the rainbow from God.
Right? Blåhaj is fantastic.
Hi there! Looks like you linked to a Lemmy community using a URL instead of its name, which doesn't work well for people on different instances. Try fixing it like this: [email protected]
I do love that community but I don't see how it belongs here except for the "wife bad" part of the meme. The joke wouldn't work without that however and it's not even the focus of the joke.
It’s not unrelated. It’s a classic deconstruction.
You start from a familiar trope (“I hate my wife” joke) and take it in a surprising direction (“I have a fulfilling sexual relationship with my wife that involves her performing fellatio”).
Whether the resulting joke itself, with the new punch line, is still “Are the straights ok” material depends on a lot of factors. My main reason for inclusion is that it still plays on the harmful “women who enjoy sex are an exception” trope, with a side of the old “women stop doing oral after they marry”, both mainstays of the boomer humor genre.
Together this makes it an insufficient departure from the initial assumptions to lift it outside the genre.
Of course, your perspective might be different.
Look, friend, I know that stuff. I'm saying it's not what the joke is about. If the joke actually was "wife bad" I'd be there with you. This joke, however, is about how the same sentence can have a different meaning depending on how it is presented. The actual scenario isn't really related to the joke itself.
Yes.
But, guess what? The two meanings still have meanings. One them is “I hate my wife”. The other is “my wife sucks cock”. You understand they are not exactly value neutral right? And that both are peak boomer humor?
Do you really?
The fact that I left you an “out” by keeping my observation close to my personal perspective and you decided to double down like this really makes me think that you do not, in fact, know that stuff.
Like I said I do agree that the words have meaning. I disagree however that the community is relevant to the joke. Because it may just as well have been the "manslaughter" vs "manslaughter" meme. I see your point. But we can disagree on the relevance for this specific meme. I was not trying to be disrespectful neither trying to dismiss you but I understand if you saw it as such and apologise for my clumsy wording.
