Revenge downvoting (kbin.social)
submitted 2 years ago* (last edited 2 years ago) by [email protected] to c/[email protected]

Is it considered acceptable to "revenge downvote" by going to a user's profile and downvoting all their posts or comments? I've seen some of this behavior going on and I don't think it reflects very well on the Fediverse or Kbin.

EDIT: Honestly didn't expect this post, of all posts, to be the one to open me up to hate. Thought fedizens were friendlier than that.

In theory this could work on Lemmy as well but since you're on kbin I would definitely recommend utilizing kbin's activity feature which lets you view these downvotes (kbin calls them reduces) and who made them. You should check other people's posts on their profile and see if the same people have been mass downvoting for seemingly no reason. Then you can start blocking these people.

As for the idea of making down votes from the profile page not count, that doesn't really seem like a good idea considering that kbin allows posts exclusively from your profile (and Lemmy might add the same in the future) it would essentially make those posts unable to be voted essentially stifling all profile posts' growth.

I think @BaldProphet's right about blocking being one-way, but I'm not sure.

In any case, I don't want to block anyone because then I'd be unable to moderate anything they might post to my magazines.

Yeah this type of blocking isn't really helpful since they can continue to harass you without you seeing it. It doesn't stop or inhibit them from causing trouble, it's just a tool to cater to snowflakes.

I'm pretty sure blocking is only one-way, so I think the blocked people would still be able to see your content and downvote it.

Is it? I thought that it cut off communication from them entirely. I mean if that's the case then it seems a bit pointless to even block people if it doesn't go both ways and they can still interact with you, just without you seeing them.

Eh unless you're a sissy little Snowflake who can't look at things you "don't like", to that I say suck it up this is the internet and people will say things that you don't like.
