That section about tradies maintaining a centuries-old employment tradition is just fascinating to me. Honestly with the rut I've been in lately it sounds fun to just uproot myself, learn a solid trade, and travel city to city for work. Probably ain't, but that's perspective for ya.
I met a carpenter like that just two weeks ago, hitchhiking southwards. Sadly we were going in the other direction or we would have taken her along.
