I get what you're saying, but think about how many civilians would die if the US armed forces targetted Americans. People seem to think it would be civilians with their ar15s holding off armed police, but it's just going to be drones dropping bombs and missiles on "insurgent" neighbourhoods. It's already been done (but with a helicopter) in Philadelphia.
Think about how many civilians would die if Trump becomes a dictator... There's no winning.
I'm not saying just roll over, my point is that this obsession with arming civilians to take on a military that spends more money on itself than the next 9 largest militaries (combined) just means a lot of civilians, armed and non-armed alike, are going to die. They aren't going to mount some heroic defense and last against a military that can just Predator Drone a neighbourhood as an example.
