Actually it's basically a clone of his very first game, Codex of Alchemical Engineering, which was a flash webgame. This is just on a hex grid where that was a square grid.
And really it follows the same pattern as all Zachtronics games. You're building a machine out of parts the game gives you to accomplish some goal.
Didn't know the first game, it really looks a improved version of it. I should have elaborated more on different; it's more accessible and on easier side compared to the likes of Spacechem.
My favorite game of theirs is probably Infinifactory
