I've tried a few places on my day trips. Toscanini's was great, but the serving size was underwhelming for the price. New City Microcreamery was similar quality/portions and basically right next door.
I went a bit out of my way on my last trip to try Matcha Cafe Maiko. They have tea-flavor soft serve and I loved that. I also liked Taiyaki NYC with the taiyaki cones. But it did feel far more corporate than I expected, even for a place with locations in multiple cities.
My next trip out I want to try Far Out for New Zealand style ice cream. That's something I really want to try.
