I wonder if this has anything to do with some sort of EU compliance requirement. Either way, you can guarantee Android messages will still have green bubbles, but if it doesn't break iMessage chats, maybe people will chill out about it.

Yes, the EU is considering forcing Apple to open up imessage, so Apple doing this as kind of a pre emotive move to try and convince them that's not necessary anymore because see we're finally implementing rcs.

Figured as much. Knowing Apple though, they'll find a form of malicious compliance that satisfies the requirements but still keeps the shit show rolling.
