He said what you said, it will slowly digest the THC, so you don't feel high for a long time until everything is digested. You don't want it to evenly disperse. You want to eat it on an empty stomach, so it will digest all at once. And to get your digestion process actually started, if you have a slow moving digestive system, you would eat a meal right after so that the edible is the first thing digested and quickly

But none of that actually matters since a large portion would be absorbed straight into the bloodstream.

Full stomach or not, it’s about 2 hours for full affect, the vehicle matters, oil or lipoid based for example. Not all chemicals are the same, they are just plain incorrect on every point mate.

Ok did some research.

https://www.eatingwell.com/article/7591435/heres-what-happens-to-your-body-when-you-eat-edibles/#:~:text=Just%20like%20food%20or%20medications,the%20THC%20to%20get%20absorbed.

"Just like food or medications, THC consumed via edibles is absorbed through the walls of your intestines. The more food that's in your system—say, you ate a weed brownie as dessert following a big dinner out—the longer it will take for the THC to get absorbed. This is where edibles are majorly different from a joint: When you smoke THC, it immediately goes into your bloodstream, whereas you might not feel the full effect of THC you've consumed until hours later, says Stolbach."

https://organtica.com/how-your-body-processes-edibles/

"Edibles take the longest to be absorbed into your system, but last 8 to 12 hours. This is because the THC travels through your digestive tract to your liver where it’s metabolized"

https://herb.co/learn/want-your-edibles-to-kick-in-faster-try-these-3-tips

"Eating an edible right after a meal can slow down the process even further, as your body is already working to digest whatever you just ate.

Similarly, taking an edible on an empty stomach might also help it kick in faster. If the edible is the only thing your body is digesting, it will work quickly to break things down and send nutrients, or in this case, THC, your way."

"Whether you’re on an empty stomach or just finished a meal, a warm drink or chicken broth can help ease digestion.

This tip isn’t so much of a fact but rather a tried and true method that many stoners include in their edible routine.

The theory states that eating an edible and sipping on something warm may help the stomach break down your edible quicker by speeding up digestion."

So yes you're right they go to the bloodstream, and it's not a sequential process of digestion, but eating a lot before eating an edible will slow your digestion. And just like other pills or drugs, it will take longer to digest if you've had a lot to eat beforehand.

The comment you initially replied to was right that eating food slows down the effects kicking in, just not right about the why.

And they partially correct about eating after taking one. They were saying that it can help speed up digestion because it will get your stomach acid more active. Which is true if you eat certain things after or just before an edible

All I’m gonna say, is none of those seem to touch on sublingually nor the different bioavailability of different extraction ingredients, and there’s not a whole lot of actual research since it’s status as an illegal drug in most places.

It’s not going to be just through the intestines, it has to pass through the stomach and mouth first where some would be directly absorbed.

I quickly looked through this, but can’t speak of its totality right now. linky

Yes but even in the article you linked it states that small amounts may be absorbed. You are not going to get the majority of the dose of your edible though your mouth or stomach, the majority is absorbed in the intestines. Which is also stated in the page you linked.

It also states that sublingual and oromucosal absorption happens within seconds to minutes. If you had absorbed a significant amount of THC from chewing an edible, you would feel it quickly, and that just doesn't happen.

The fact of how edibles function in the real world, aside from negligible absorption in the mouth is this:

  • you are not going to feel your edible kick in until 30 minutes to 2 hours later

  • an edible kicking in can be slowed if you've had a large meal

  • drinking something warm or having a small amount of food just before or after taking an edible will speed up its digestion and speed up it kicking in.

  • it does NOT absorb at the same rate no matter what.

How would it be absorbed straight through the bloodstream from an edible?

Not an argument question, just a curious one from a place of ignorance. I always thought the edible had to be digested first, and if it was eaten after food that would slow the digestion of the edible.

[–] EatYouWell 4 points 1 year ago (1 children)

They said it's absorbed by the stomach lining so it doesn't have to be digested.

It's the same concept as 10% of the alcohol you drink being absorbed by your mouth.

[–] [email protected] 1 points 1 year ago

I didn't know that about alcohol either lol

[–] schmidtster 2 points 1 year ago

Through the stomach lining and a little in the mouth. Not all chemicals are able to cross this barrier which is why the original commenter is straight up wrong.

If you take the edible on a time delay capsule so it bypasses stomach absorption yeah. Different methods have different bioavailability, whether it’s straight decarbed cannabis, suspended in oil, or milk fats. All 3 off those options can be made into brownies or taken as is.

[–] [email protected] 0 points 1 year ago (1 children)

The person above you seems to be trying to argue for the efficacy of an oil-based thc tincture, which is absorbed sublingually through the mucous membrane beneath the tongue. Because otherwise I guess they're suggesting that the "edible" be consuming pure thc/oil compound, which would be weed oil or weed butter, and no one should be drinking those.

[–] schmidtster 1 points 1 year ago* (last edited 1 year ago) (1 children)

The bioavailability of THC depends on the method and vehicle of consumption. Wheter it’s straight decarbed cannabis, suspended in oil, or milk fat. Would all produce different affects when put into the same brownie recipe.

There is some methods that are better for sublingually dosing than others, but this was about edibles, which still also get absorbed through the mouth and stomach linings.

Not all chemicals are able to be absorbed this way either, so…

Bruh I know all this, as should've been indicated by my reply. You're giving off the vibe of someone who wants to fell other people stuff just to seem smart, and not like somebody having a conversion.

[–] schmidtster 2 points 1 year ago

Your reply with assumptions that aren’t even correct themselves?

Yeah people “drink” oil, you’ve never heard of someone melting butter in tea or even fire crackers?

I’m open for a conversation, but sometimes you gotta correct people, lmfao.
