Sometimes I love to buy the mobile version of a game, because I know my group would never play it, the setup is too much or it’s kind of expensive (Root, Gaia Project, Scythe).

But sometimes I play a game online and realize, playing it competitively online would ruin the fun, because it’s so great I want to experience it with my friends or family (Res Arcana, Sushi Go, King of Tokyo).

Have you experienced something similar?

I have played a ton of Star Realms digital thanks to the great organized play community on BGG. It has hurt my chances of ever playing it in person outside of rare tournaments (my friends are either already playing against me in the app or are afraid to play), but it does not stop me from buying all of the physical products.

Hero Realms is on the same trajectory (through the co-op campaign is not yet available on digital); and it is being made worse because the app is getting balance errata that are not yet in print.

I downloaded Star Reals and Hero Realms on the same day to see which one is better. I prefer a space theme but to my surprise I liked Hero Realms more! The app is so awesome, I‘m considering to buy the full version and making it my „I only play this one online“-game!
