Yeah there’s a lot of synergies that can be done to dish out massive damage. My issue is that I feel like I can never figure out these things on my own. I always have to rely on a guide. Makes me feel like I am copying someone else’s homework. My first build that I listed was done without a guide and just based on what I thought would be fun. Second build was using a guide and it completely outclasses my first, but I also don’t think I would have ever discovered it on my own, especially because it relies on Lucky Hit, which is a mechanic that’s not really well explained in the game.
Yeah, I feel the same, but I've simply accepted the fact that my builds will never compare very well to someone else's (who knows what they're doing). Lucky hit is still a mystery to me, when I create a build I always "ignore" critical and lucky hits. The names make them sound unreliable.
Definitely don't ignore them! Critical strikes and Lucky Hit bonuses are sooooooo powerful and one of the ways to deal meaningful damage. Lucky hits is just an extra probability multiplier. So let's say you have an item that says "Lucky Hit: 10% chance of applying Burning" and your character has a lucky hit chance of 30%. That means that your item has 0.3 * 0.1 = 0.03 = 3% chance of applying Burning, which might sound very little, but often times it's calculating that PER hit, so you can imagine that occuring a lot with ice shards for example.
I'm not a huge fan of how syngergies are implemented in the game, they feel rather contrived.
I'd prefer more natural synergies like give me a huge meteor that is hard to aim, but if I combine it with a frost nova or trap spell that keeps mobs in place, I now have a great combo. Or a frozen orb spraying every mob with water and then getting extra damage with chain lightning because all the mobs are now wet.
Stuff you can look at and understand, not some debuffs you have to look up in a spells description or that only appear if you combine specific spells with rare aspects.
