I'd second the Aberlour mentioned already and add Tomatin 12. Ardbeg's Wee Beastie is a good one to try and for cheapness Aldi do a12 year old single malt Glen Marnoch, good depth of flavour and smooth as you like.
Thank you for your kind recommendations, there is a whiskey store downtown, I will ask them if they can give me a tasting of these and the other recommendations. Maybe I can buy the ones I like best first and then strategically add more bottles of this list. I mean it doesn't go bad.
