I can't use the official app even if I wanted to. Most of my use is on LineageOS sans gapps. And with old.reddit.com gone I will be locked out completely.

old reddit was confirmed to stay, but with how things have went it is looking hard to believe it will be for too long

They have a solid business case to see it gone. Probably before IPO.

That would definitely be the day I stopped checking in. New reddit looks a lot like what they changed digg into, and is about as useful.

The API was also confirmed in January to not be changing this year, so I wouldn't put too much faith in whatever Reddit/known liar spez says.
