From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Linux is a family of open source Unix-like operating systems based on the Linux kernel, an operating system kernel first released on September 17, 1991 by Linus Torvalds. Linux is typically packaged in a Linux distribution (or distro for short).

Distributions include the Linux kernel and supporting system software and libraries, many of which are provided by the GNU Project. Many Linux distributions use the word "Linux" in their name, but the Free Software Foundation uses the name GNU/Linux to emphasize the importance of GNU software, causing some controversy.

I'm really glad to hear this. Hopefully over the coming years with laws like this allowing service manuals and laws like the EU's right to repair and get parts we'll see much better devices that we can hang on to longer. It's unsustainable to continue using and throwing away devices at the rate many do.

Agreed. Id also like to see some laws requiring OEM/hardware sellers to free up their hardware a bit more too.

I have an older pixel phone that i cant give more life to because the boot loader is locked. I got it from Verizon, so its just a paperweight now.

I got my new one from Google, so at least when it goes eol from them i'll be able to put some sort of rom on it and extend the life.
