Please don’t tell me that, I finally beat Sekiro shadows die twice after like two years of trying and now I got Elden ring lined up and I’m not sure I want to start it. Ugh.

Imo Sekiro is harder. Eden Ring, while quite difficult at times, feels much more forgiving to me. Really I think there are only a handful of bosses in ER that really fucked me up.

no, you can do it! if you beat sekiro you can beat elden ring. the open world, summoning options, and build variety give you all kinds of ways to win. start it!

I mean, that’s what I was kind of hoping that it would be a little bit easier experience. Lol

One bit of advice for Elden Ring is if you are having trouble with a boss go somewhere else. The first boss easily becomes the hardest boss without some upgrades.

well elden ring is my first souls game

Oh thank god, I’m basically ancient at this point in gaming years, so I got my start with the OG on PlayStation.

Sekiro only gave me so many issues because it felt more like DDR fighting game than a souls game, and I messed up and thought you HAD to fight that first boss lady butterfly(?) in the first memory sequence.

Spent about one year of ADHD on and off again battling her with only the starting health and potions before beating her. FML

I beat Elden Ring multiple times. I tried playing Sekiro, but I couldn't get past the first boss (I think it was at a shrine in a cellar?).

You'll be fine :) I can very much recommend the (I think it's called) Samurai class. They start with a Katana that's pretty good.

Lady Butterfly? She's technically an optional boss and really meant to be fought a bit later. She's an absolute pushover once you have some upgrades and actually know what you are doing, but if you are just starting the game she is way too difficult. It's honestly kinda stupid that you are allowed to access her so early.

The actual first boss is Gyoubu, the guy with the horse. While also difficult for first timers, he's much more doable than Lady Butterfly.

Okay, I definitely didn't get to a guy with the horse. I had incredible issues with the first miniboss (the guy that gets drunk and spits stuff?), so I assumed I'm just too bad for the game :D might have to give it another try!

[–] [email protected] 3 points 1 year ago (1 children)

Yeah, you got into Hirata Estate. That's a semi-optional area that's a bit too hard for when you first gain access to it. It's really the game's fault for giving you the bell thingy so early imo.

I definitely recommend giving the game another go. Don't get me wrong, you will die a lot even when you follow the main path like you are supposed to, but the game is a bit more fair with the difficulty curve. Except for the Chained Ogre, that guy is just bullshit.

Thanks for the recommendation, I definitely will! Do you know of any "guide" or something explaining a good order to do things in, in case I get stuck again? It would be good to have a reference to check.

[–] [email protected] 1 points 1 year ago (1 children)

I don't, sorry, I generally don't use guides while playing.

[–] FooBarrington 1 points 1 year ago

No problem, I'm sure I can find something if it comes to that!

The thing with the Souls games is you can always bring in another player, or level a bit more. With GoW that isn't an option.

[–] [email protected] 1 points 1 year ago (1 children)

GoW? Gears of war, god of war?

[–] [email protected] 2 points 1 year ago (1 children)

God of War.

The main story is much easier than any Souls game. The optional stuff in them will punish you.

Ah, I’ve never had issues with the God of war series. Always been more of a combo heavy fighting game style of combat than a slow methodical dodge-fest.
