All of these plants just trying to survive in nature and we come along thinking man that sure is a tasty defense mechanism.

I mean, spices like Cardemom and Cinnamon must have expected their deliciousness would attract some humans... But the world's spiciest peppers?! Poor guys are in disbelief.
