A police officer has been jailed for 26 years for 20 offences including multiple counts of rape and sexual assault on a child.

Stephen Hardy, 46, a detective constable with Greater Manchester Police (GMP), used his teenage victim as a “puppet or sex object”, Judge Robert Trevor-Jones said during his sentencing on Wednesday.

Not all cops are bad, but the phrase most people use about a few bad apples is actually, "one bad apple spoils the whole barrel".

Right, on! DevCat, preach! Every bad cop, spoils all the good cops till they're all bad cops. A good cop's silence is equal to aiding and abetting or maybe obstruction of justice. But, I'm not a lawyer.

"Good cops" Get fired or killed by their fellow officers.

Lots of news stories about both. Prison guard acquaintance once told me a story about not getting backup after "ratting out" a fellow guard. Nothing bad happened to him, but afterwards he was never sure if he'd get help if needed. He's not a prison guard anymore.

If cops willingly look the other way while bad cops do bad things, then yes, they are all bad, just to different degrees.

We've seen endless mountains of evidence that this is a CULTURAL problem that has infected police from coast to coast.

I shudder to think how bad things were before we started forcing them to wear body cams, and before we all had smartphone cameras.
