Ah the original internet meme.
Literally the week I found out about this was the week Futurama aired Anthology of Interest 2.
My roommate was in the room adjacent the living room where I was with some friends. One of the funniest moments of my life; on the show Fry gets on the game to defend earth by playing Space Invaders, very Enders Game-ish, and says "it's Saturday Night, I have no date, I'm listening to my All Rush mix tape drinking a bottle of Shasta" and my roomie immediately just shouts out "oh FUCK YOU."
You see, it was a Saturday night, he had no date, he was on his computer listening to Rush, drinking Shasta and playing motherfucking SPACE INVADERS.
We were all in tears laughing and then the aliens land, and as they funnel out one of them goes "All your base are belong to us". The fucking place erupts.
Besides my roomie being Philip J. Fry incarnate, it was the first time any of us had seen a meme break thru into the zeitgeist. It might be common now, but that was the FIRST for a huge swathe of us millenials.
Best cartoon ever made. I'll die on that hill.
