Improve The News is a free news aggregator and news analysis site developed by a group of researchers at MIT and elsewhere to improve your access to trustworthy news. Many website algorithms push you (for ad revenue) into a filter bubble by reinforcing the narratives you impulse-click on. By understanding other people’s arguments, you understand why they do what they do – and have a better chance of persuading them. **What's establishment bias?** The establishment view is what all big parties and powers agree on, which varies between countries and over time. For example, the old establishment view that women shouldn’t be allowed to vote was successfully challenged. ITN makes it easy for you to compare the perspectives of the pro-establishment mainstream media with those of smaller establishment-critical news outlets that you won’t find in most other news aggregators. This Magazine/Community is not affiliated with Improve The News and is an unofficial repository of the information posted there.

Narrative A:

  • Nancy Pelosi’s decision to remain in office at the age of 83 highlights a major point of contention in American politics. Most Americans — regardless of their political affiliation — favor term limits amid concerns that having older politicians thrust into the most important positions interferes with their health and hinders them from adequately performing their duties. It's an injustice for everyone involved if politicians with a clear degradation of their health continue to serve the public.

Narrative B:

  • Americans have made great progress in opposing discrimination upon characteristics such as race, gender, and sexual orientation, yet many people seem to be just fine with blatant ageism. At every turn, older politicians on both sides are heavily scrutinized after every slip-up, as the media calls for them to retire. The fact is that many of these 70-plus-year-old politicians are wiser and more effective than their younger counterparts. Modern technology and medicine have done wonders to keep people mentally and physically acute for much longer, and America's political system desperately needs seasoned leadership.

Nerd narrative:

  • There's a 50% chance that Republicans will win control of the US House of Representatives in 2024, according to the Metaculus prediction community.

She's 83... Politicians who run for office shouldn't be any older than 50 in my own opinion. You know, people who will make changes and decisions for their own future and others. With an average lifespan in your 80s, 83 year Olds shouldn't be making policies that change the future of everyone but theirselves
