I'm worried that companies like Microsoft and Google

The days of windows dominance are long, long gone.

If MS were unable to to this 20 years ago when they were at the hight of their power they have zero hope now.

Same with google. They are an advertising company that has been masquerading as a tech firm for the last 15 years.

Microsoft didn't have always on internet 20 years ago, in some ways they also have somewhat less competition now than before, since there were PC clones before while now it's Mac or PC. Though your point does give me some hope.
