Metroidvania is a subgenre of video games focused on guided non-linearity and utility-gated exploration. The term, popularized by video game critic Jeremy Parish, is a portmanteau of Metroid and Castlevania.

This is a cloned community from Reddit. I intend to hand over mod support to the original mods should they choose to migrate to Lemmy.

It's my favorite gaming genre by far. I'm currently finishing a run in Lone Fungus which has become a surprise hit for me.

I noticed there was no metroidvania community here yet so I decided to create one. If the original mods of that community want to join send me a message. I do not want to be a mod, I just wanted to see my favorite community on Lemmy.

I've been having fun with Aeterna Noctis after stopping my playthrough of Chronicles of 2 Heroes: Amaterasu's Wrath. 22 hours in so far and I'm maybe half-way through? Instant favorite, I feel like I likely gonna try to a 100% (or close to it).

I think AN took me 40 hours to 100%, an instant classic. Sounds like you're playing it with the recent patch and I think it greatly improves the experience.
