MODERATORS

Hi all, thanks so much for your input on this post in regards to de-federation. I have read through every comment and have taken all perspectives on board. I think I have come up with my stance on the matter for the moment.

For now I wont be de-federating with any other instances or servers. I feel it is important as many people have mentioned to "leave the power to the users" and let them decide the content they wish to see. In regards to this I think it will be extremely important to educate people on how to block communities that they do not wish to see. If you all could assist me with that and help guide new users that would be much appreciated. I will be creating a post on this soon and will put a note in the sidebar about it.

I also am aware and agree that certain content has no place in peoples feeds and that they want nothing to do with it. I myself am one of those people. Therefore there are a few things that I will still strongly be pushing for.

Site admins are currently discussing what moderation tools that we think we need. And this is what I propose and hope to implement into VLemmy.

A mod/admin tool that allows me to block certain communities/servers from appearing in all/new/hot feeds while they will still show for users that are subscribed. This stops the unwanted propagation of harmful/unwanted content while not restricting access to it and allowing users to interact if they wish.

A user tool that will show the users what communities the admin/mod has hidden from showing up in the new/all/hot feeds and allow them to uncheck it for themselves if they wish.

I feel like this is a reasonable compromise and I hope that this will help give a balanced experience for all. Critiques, criticism, refinements, suggestions, questions, all are welcome in the comments and are much appreciated.

I have nothing to say beside good luck.

For NSFW content, it might be inappropriate to show in anyone feeds if not requested, even more since there is not switch to display or not NSFW content on my jerboa app.

Filtering them for not appearing in my stream if i didn't want to seems good.

Thanks.

Show NSFW is account level flag. Go to your profile settings and uncheck it. And yes, it's possible via Jerboa.

Also. There is stil NSFW content that i don't want to see to know that i want to block them. For instance child porn or animal abuse and so on.

My opinion is that the instance should ban content that do not conform to the regulation there is in the country where the instance is.

If people are not satisfied they can join other instances that allow that kind of content.

I'm ok to free speech but some regulation is needed. It will also protect those community that can be harassed by people that didn't want to see that kind of content.

I don't think anyone here is endorsing illegal content. The point was that the decision to what people can see should be left to them as long as it's not illegal. Users can block individual communities they don't like.

And I understand admins/mods wanting to moderate their frontpage, but it shouldn't be at the cost of users individual subscribed feeds.

But the "show NSFW" option does only work when the other instance flags NSFW content correctly, right? A friend of mine is on an instance where the content definitely is not flagged. If I would subscribe to these communities with this account on vlemmy, wouldn't the content pass right through the "Don't show NSFW" option?

Each post has an option to enable NSFW flag. So it's not based on instance or even community. But yes, if the post is not marked as NSFW then it will be seen. Though all the NSFW comminities I seen require users to use NSFW flags in their rules.

There is people saying in this discussion that id we start banning child porn it will be the slippery slope and we will ban something else and so on. And if people don't want to see child porn they have the possibility of blocking the content.
