How do you discover new music?
I'll start us off:
I used to be pretty active on /r/RepublicOfMusic but I haven't had a reddit account in years.
Now I mostly discover new #music from my recommendations on SoundCloud.
- I have a few playlists that SoundCloud auto generates
- Daily Drops - #newmusic based on my listening history
- SoundCloud Weekly - weekly playlist based on my listening history
- Mixed for Me - Based on something I liked or listen to recently
- Feed - a list of new tracks or reposts from accounts I follow
-
My YouTube Subscriptions
-
Shazam - Shazaming whatever stream or video I'm watching for the background music. Also have the app on my phone for whatever cafe or restaurant is playing music IRL.
-
Balamii - 24/7 Internet Radio - A London based music platform championing emerging & established artists from across the underground music community through radio, video and event production.
Where do you find your new music? Do you have a favorite blog or website you go to?
I mostly discover new music listening to BBC Radio 6 music. They don't exclusively play new music, they don't exclusively play anything outside of certain specialist shows like the Craig Charles Funk And Soul Show on Saturday evenings. They do have a (very varied) playlist from which the daytime DJs have to play stuff, but someone did a count up and figured out it's less than 25% of what they play on most shows anyway, with the rest being selected by the DJs and producers.
