Since the Heller opinion in 2008 and the reinvention of the Second Amendment, what we have and what has evolved in America is constitutionally protected gun violence. The Constitution should protect life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness, not gun violence. Guns should not be the priority. The priority should be public safety and people’s lives.

Yes, this. Unfortunately, there is still this deification of the 2A in this country.

It's worse than that. The stated reason all these gun nuts are so pro-2nd amendment is to 'defend against a tyranical government'. This is a lie. The incredibly strong correlation between 2nd amendment proponents and support for an authoritarian government that uses the police to oppress out-groups should be all the evidence anyone needs to conclude that these fuckers real reason is, "We plan to take over the US government and having the most guns makes that more likely".

Yup. Their notion of owning guns to protect "freedom" is only about the Southern notion of "freedom", not any normal definition of that term. The fact that most of them love the likes of donnie and ronnie tells you all you need to know about them.

Some of us just want to protect our family in a dangerous country man. I have guns and vote blue and keep to myself. I don’t want to hurt anyone I just want to keep my family safe

Hey, I have guns, too, and I know lots of people like you and I. I think it's a spectrum, though. I just don't think gun "rights" should be put in a pedestal, as if they are the same as freedom FROM religion and freedom of speech, etc...

It's just gotten so crazy in recent decades, and just seems to keep getting even crazier.

Some examples:

  1. I've seen some of the same people that advocate for guns being a "right" that can never be changed or restricted ALSO arguing that voting is not "really" a right.
  2. The extremism of gun owners just being so in-your-face about it and downright weird. Interesting anecdote - just a few days ago, I saw a car (hybrid) with the sticker on it that said: "I'm saving fuel to buy more guns". Now seriously, WTAF? I'm sure this owner thinks this is a great way to "own the libz", but most normal Americans look at that and think - in times gone by, the men with the butterfly nets would be called in and take this kind of person off for some much-needed help. It clearly looks like a cry for help and nothing more. And it's considered "normal" in our current environment.
