they'd have to be really convincing and build up support at the grassroots level - but it seems that the zeitgeist these days is "MAGA" oriented; aka a public figure known to many stood up to the "swamp" and said "my way is better" and that resonated with many people. there are vast swathes of the country that disagree about how local governance is handled in the left-leaning megalopolises where the Democrat power base is. that doesnt make it wrong, but right and left ideology is mutually incompatible at a fundamental level.
