help! how to group finder notifications and how to stop hdd from disconnecting during sleep

new MBP user here with M2, 13", 2022.
I'm trying to backup some stuff to dropbox from my hdd (~300GB of photos and videos), but my hdd keeps being disconnected on its own? and how the hell do I clear all notifications?
does your HDD gets enough power? (or this isn't a question anymore since we have these fancy connectors and cables?)
