Didn't even know an instance could block a specific community of another instance. I thought the only option was defederation. Is there any way to see/list the communities blocked by an instance?
Genuinly good question. I get why they did what they did but i personally would like to be able to see all of the lemmyverse. Being on one the largest instances probably isnt the answer.
Agreed. I didn't come here for censorship with extra steps.
Not sure how all of this will shake out but my hope is that someday at the very least i can host an instancs for only myself that is so small and miniscule that nobody bothers to defederate with me. At the very least maybe there will be a log of this stuff so we can all see which instancs is the most friendly. Regardless of all this im very happy that the people behind lemmy.world keep it running as smoothly as they do and im happy with it at the moment.
Kinda sucks the largest one has to include censorship that's against The majority of the community. I would get it if the majority of the community was against piracy and we really want to block it but that's obviously not the case
Do you have any figures to show that the majority of the users on this instance are in favour of piracy? Or do you just assume you're in the majority?
Look at the vote count on the op by the admin
So out of those users who have both read and voted on this post, 60% voted negatively. It's safe to assume that the majority of people who did both are those who feel strongly one way or the other about the issue, and statistically it's more likely that those who disagree will vote, as those who are angry about something tend to be the most vocal. Unfortunately we have no easy way of knowing how many users who read the post don't care one way or another.
In addition, Lemmy.world has around 21K users per month, and out of those around 1.5K users voted negatively. That's around 7% of the monthly users who disagree with this news. Hardly a majority.
