Hi, I'm Dee.
I was browsing through the various instances to join up with because I was tired of all the downtime with lemmy.world and I wanted to start using Lemmy as it was intended (spreading accounts out among more instances). That, and Beehaw hasn't been quite as engaging since defederation with lemmy.world and other large instances (which is why I went back to the lemmy.world account in the first place). I get why they defederated and I support their decision, it just was an overall negative impact for me in my Beehaw experience since I was in so many other communities outside of Beehaw.
This instance seemed chill, it blocks Threads and exploding heads so that's a great first impression. There's a few more instances I'd like to see added to the block list but that's a good enough start for me to get comfy here. The low user count has made everything just run so much quicker than with lemmy.world and I can still enjoy the same communities.
Happy to have found this place that appears to be here for the long haul and I'm looking forward to getting to know the local instance community more!
Edit: Sorry for triggering the snowflakes in the comments and for them feeling the need to provide substantial proof for why so many other instances defederate from them by default.
@rikudou @Dee Each defederation is a step closer to becoming the next Gab: they defederated from everyone. Congrats!
Have you considered not actively promoting harming other users?
@rikudou where did i actively promote harming other users, and how are you defining harm?
I didn't mean you specifically. I'm not particularly fond of people being called removeds, removeds and other similar slurs. One of those was from a moderator of the instance, so it was an officially endorsed action by that instance.
The other I wanted to contact first, until I noticed in the profile of the admin that they use similar slurs and sentiments in their bio.
What are we even pretending here? Those people came here (unprompted I might add) and just for shit and giggles started calling people names because they knew they'll get a reaction. Well, they got their reaction. If it was an action of an individual, I would just ban them but given the fact that it was the instance admins, I thought it safe to block the whole instance.
@rikudou we're pretending this is the free and open internet, an alternative to censorship and nannying that drove most of us here 5+ years ago to get away from it.
For my part, I can't figure out why now people who want a curated, censored internet come to the wild west, then complain, then began breaking down the linkages between instances because of their individual sensitivities instead of going somewhere that already caters to coddling and enforcing thought regimentation.
It's not that hard to understand - people don't want to be called removeds and removeds and similar very "creative" stuff. It's not only stupid, it's also plain embarrassing. And if a whole instance exists pretty much for the purpose of going to other instances and childishly giggling at how they showed those normies by calling them the big bad words, well, that whole instance is gonna get blocked here.
Sure, this is free and open internet. You're free and open to spill your embarrassment wherever you want, just don't be surprised if my definition of free includes hate-speech-free.
Note that you're still free to spill your hatred on the rest of the Fediverse - if it will tolerate you, that is. Careful, your land of "free and open" might end up being only people like this.
@rikudou right, so those people can block other people. Why do you need to make that decision for them? And, you're in no way in favor of free speech:
"Goebbels was in favor of free speech for views he liked. So was Stalin. If you’re really in favor of free speech, then you’re in favor of freedom of speech for precisely the views you despise. Otherwise, you’re not in favor of free speech."
― Noam Chomsky
The rules of this instance are clearly posted. It even mentions that if you don't agree with them, you should find another instance. I consider this discussion finished.
@rikudou are you still claiming to be a free speech advocate?
@rikudou i don't, because I'd like to know how you square your claim to free speech against an exception that makes it unfree.
Have you thought about this? What inspired you towards authoritarianism? Was it a troubled childhood?

Can you please put a trigger warning on this post if you're going to *actualy* type out the n-word and the f-word in full plesse?
It's 2023 in case you didn't know and I see no good reason for anyone to actually type or say those words in their full form.
Sorry if I come off as rude or whatever but this is a touchy subject and I don't want any of our Bi-POC (Bi-sexual Persons Of Color) allies to be offended
@rikudou @jeremiah @GabeLakmann dude joins instance and IMMEDIATELY starts requesting defederations. And requests content warnings for “scary” words.
Absolutely pathetic
@GabeLakmann @jeremiah @rikudou it’s good the internet has white knights like you. Those “people of color” which is just “colored people” in a different order (offensive!) are grown ups and can handle themselves.
@MartinDeLaToot @GabeLakmann @rikudou the good news is that when they've finally achieved utopia / full block saturation their own purity olympics begin, followed shortly by cannibalism.
You can defederate, block, censor, banish, and cover your ears to words you dislike. Or you can have the intellectually & morally stronger argument.
The latter is much effective and long lasting
I don't care about words, I care about what the people want to say with their words.
Agreed, despite the shitposting (fun), if there's a better position that doesn't require my children abused and my people murdered, that sounds worth considering.
I would be fine with Lincoln's approach rather than TND if possible.
