Metroidvania

Metroidvania is a subgenre of video games focused on guided non-linearity and utility-gated exploration. The term, popularized by video game critic Jeremy Parish, is a portmanteau of Metroid and Castlevania.

This is a cloned community from Reddit. I intend to hand over mod support to the original mods should they choose to migrate to Lemmy.

Simple, reply with your top 3 MVs, and feel free to edit it as time goes on! I'll pin this to the channel until it becomes difficult to parse!

Is it weird to be a Metroidvania enthusiast who hasn't been able to finish a Castlevania game? I like them, but they don't draw me in like others.

  1. Hollow Knight
  2. Metroid Zero Mission
  3. Metroid Fusion

Honorable mention: Tomb Raider (2013) Didn't know it was a Metroidvania until reading this thread.
