A level 12-20 D&D adventure would pose major new design challenges.

The game has been out for like 3 days, who's expecting an expansion already?

I don’t think people are expecting one already, but you would usually expect the studio to at least have started on an expansion by the time the game itself releases. If they haven’t even started on one yet, that means any expansion is likely a couple years away at least.

I wouldn’t expect a race or two to take that long and would be one of the easier things to give players. I’ve seen many ask where the arokakra, or tabaxi, or Kenku are. Personally idc about those races but the Goliath would be fun, I had a buddy play one once and rp as the dumb muscle of the group

Sure, but an expansion would have to be a lot more than a couple of new races, there’d need to be a whole new story arc, potentially new areas to visit, lots of new conversations that would need to be written and recorded. Not many people are going to come back just for a couple of new races, they want more to experience. Races could be DLC, but not a whole expansion by themselves

True, guess I was rolling the two together since any dlc is technically an expansion of the product but yea the term expansion in the gaming industry is typically used like you described. A whole new story/area
