Aston Martin makes me depressed right now. Why Mediums?
The FIA in their "wisdom" never declared the track wet. They didn't want teams to have a free selection of slicks, so AM had to follow the rules.
Are you sure? That quali format with fixed tires was a one-off test right? Afaik those rules don't apply now. They didn't apply in the quali yesterday either. I think it was just a wrong call from Aston
On the broadcast they asked AM and the response was it was never declared wet. They followed up with the FIA and were told it was an intentional decision to not declare wet. I think the trial was for regular quali, and the restriction was already in place for sprint quali. Edit: https://www.motorsportweek.com/2023/04/25/formula-1-confirms-sprint-shootout-with-tyre-twist/
Ah okay thanks. I stand corrected then. Kinda silly rule
