I’m in a rental with a terrible landlord who is proud of the fact that he hasn’t updated the building since he bought it in the 70s. Seriously terrible, the mailman blocked his phone number. This bathroom was clearly re-patched at some point and then left unpainted, it resembles a room before the painters arrive.

I’m trying to think of relatively cheap options to make it look a bit nicer. What I would like to do is caulk a piece of facade (maybe tiled or something) into this especially ugly spot. The surface is some kind of plastic which has been installed around the bathtub region (looks like 3-4 separate sheets of whatever the material is).

PS: paint would work too but I have no idea if it’s okay to use paint on plastic in bathrooms. The existing discoloration doesn’t seem to be paint (it’s not raised at all and the texture is the same as the rest of the surface).
