Honestly crime isn't outside the ordinary for Cali and that's despite it correlating with population density. Most crimes are Property Crimes rather than violent crimes, the trend peaked in the late 1960s and declined ever since, then sort of leveled out the last decade.
As for homelessness, there is a reason they live in California. It's the only place with enough kindness for them to survive.
