Hamas came to power after winning an election in 2006.

And that election happened in a complete vacuum.... No need to add context to why Palestinians in 06' would be voting for Hamas.

Also 2006 was nearly 20 years ago, the vast majority of the people who voted for Hamas are dead or have migrated away. 50% of the population in Gaza are under 18.
