Fair, I didn't do Wyll's quest and found Karlach first, so eventually he just stumbled into my camp.
Didn't kill him then, but

spoiler for Act 2

the demon later captures Wyll and after fighting Ketheric on the tower you go through the illithid hive below and can find him again. My Wyll's down in the eternal hellfires now.
