I have an Xbox One X. Tonight I noticed a banner on the main screen saying I could get up to $150 trading in my console for an Xbox Series X. I scanned the QR code for the trade-in calculator and it told me my promotional value was actually $100, not $150. There hasn’t been a lot on the Series S/X that interests me that I can’t play on my One X other than Flight Simulator. I do also use it as my media player for that TV, so the one advantage it has is if I subscribed to YouTube TV’s 4K package I could watch it on that TV (the One X is not listed as supported but can apparently show some, though not all, YouTube TV 4K content). I don’t even actually play that much so I’m not sure it’s worth spending the money, but I am curious about doing the upgrade. It looks like all my games should still play and my controllers still work? I don’t have anything that uses the Kinect and don’t have a Kinect, so no worries there. So if I did the trade-in I wouldn’t lose anything and would gain a current-gen system? I think I would get a Series X, but not the 2TB Galaxy edition.

It’s more that I feel like I don’t have as much time for gaming as I used to, and so many of the games nowadays are single player or online multiplayer only. It feels like the only current generation games that have multiple players onscreen are Overcooked or similar. That means me taking up the biggest TV in the house for a solo activity. It’s why most of what we do on there is watch things, not game.

I do have a Roku but the TV is an older 4K TV so it only has one true 4K HDMI input. At some point I should get a cheap switch that would let me have more than one input. Long term I’d like to get a surround sound system and the receiver would take care of that problem, but what I’d like to do is not in the budget for now.

Really what I’ve been thinking of doing most for gaming for now is getting a Steam Deck. There are more games I prefer playing that are better suited for a computer like Civilization and that would give me an option to still play on a couch if I don’t feel like sitting at a desk. That’s probably the best bang for the buck for me right now, although I still won’t make that purchase soon.

Sounds like you've thought it out well and know exactly what you're looking for now. A steam deck is on my wishlist as well. Just waiting to see if the rumored Xbox handheld is any good.
