Maine doesnt send money to the Feds. When you pay federal taxes, you pay them straight to the federal government and not the state. It’s a myth blue states give more than they receive.
While its nice to never have to back up your claims, but Maine in 2020 paid in 8,097,747,000 and your claim that they would lose out on 6.1 billion means they are paying in about 2 billion more. And I am sure there could still be a stink somehow put in the mix, if they do not benefit from the fed then why make their citizens pay into it.
States don’t pay federal taxes. The people in the state pay taxes to the federal government.
As such they cant refuse not to pay taxes to the federal government. They never have that money to hold.
They pay because they are supposed too, if the state challenges that as there is supposed to be a benefit to being part of the union they could tell the payment processors its ok not to pay that money from our state until this is settled, you know there are numbers these biz's have to give to say this is the amount from corp/person X Y Z, just put a 0 there. Now weather each corp or person would ask for that to happen is on them. But I know there are many facebook groups out there trying to be sovcits and tax dodging is a rich/corp game, I would see if there isnt a few that do.
No company would send the money to the state vs the federal government. That’s embezzlement.
It’s simple. States states have nothing to withhold from the federal government. If they tried to steal the money, that would be an insurrection and federal troops would remove their government.
That is why they are going through the courts. That’s their only option
you cant put federal troops down, you can only send national guard, and on that I think the state has to ask for it. And its not, they money was given to the state, IF the fed started to send them federal money again the state would just pay all those funds to the FED. It would be Fed vs State. All those corps and people would be like we did like local laws required of us, here are the receipts, I never said the money wasnt collected, that would be some form of embezzlement. And it would have to be up to how the state constitution reads and the laws of their state.
But again the whole reason the Fed has money was the guaranty that those funds would be spend on greater over all things for the country including in that state. If you pull all funds over something that isnt even a law, its an order, not even a war time law. That would give them the most ground to be like, no the exec is over reaching and packed its judicial to support it, until they vote these things thru with a majority where we CAN goto the courts and all those laws have to be paused until resolved. But these orders are not checked at all.
