Could we conceive for one split second that maybe it's not all amount profit, unstoppable growth and GDP, and that regulations are put in place to ensure the well being of citizens in the long term?

I am not saying that all regulations from the EU are good, make sense, are always perfectly implemented. I am saying that economic growth shouldn't be the first concern of lawmakers.

The article mentions the cost of complying to GDPR. Well, GDPR is not there to grow profits, it's there to protect citizens' rights and privacy, which is essential to a healthy democracy (but not sufficient).

Comparing EU to China, makes no sense. China is a totalitarian state that bares no consideration whatsoever for the well-being of its citizens. Do we want the EU to take such a country as an example to follow? Are we all ready to sacrifice our health and liberty on the altar of economic growth?
