it's in closed beta, and they have periodic rounds of registrations. so you can apply for registration, and then when you get invited, you can register.

it's all on the walkscape website.

It's in private beta currently. Next invite wave is apparently around April. Supporting on patreon ensures you get a slot, but doesn't get you in sooner.

Eugh, I would have tested for free; but if they want me to pay for it, I can just go tobogganing with my kids

Well, full release will eventually happen, and at that point it may be free, or at least you would be paying for a complete experience! You can also sign up for a slot for free, it's just that if you donate you get guaranteed a slot.
